Change has been the constant in political campaigns and the news coverage they engender. Come participate in a discussion about those changes -- and the changes to come -- with Youngstown Press Club member Mark Niquette.
Some of the topics we'll take on during this wide-ranging conversation will include transformative changes in technology and advertising, including the impact of social media and artificial intelligence, and the implications for reporters.
Also up for discussion -- the evolution of polling, challenges to election integrity, and how to cover candidates as campaigns move from hyperbole to a "post truth" world in which there are fundamental disagreements about objective reality.
A veteran political reporter, Mark has seen and written about it all. He's covered local, state and national campaigns for The Vindicator, the Columbus Dispatch and, currently, Bloomberg News, where he covered the Trump campaign during the last national election cycle.

Mark Niquette
Mark Niquette has been covering politics and government on the local, state and national levels for more than 30 years. He got his start at The Vindicator in Youngstown, Ohio, where he worked for 10 years before moving on to The Akron Beacon Journal, The Columbus Dispatch and Bloomberg News, where he has been since 2011.
His news and analysis reporting has included day-to-day coverage of politics, state governors and government affairs, state and national campaigns and elections, as well as the election process. Here in the Mahoning Valley, he covered former U.S. Representative James A. Traficant, county elections and economic development, and investigations into public corruption.
From 1992 through 2008, Mark covered the campaigns of candidates vying for the U.S. presidency as they made their way through the one-time bellwether state of Ohio, as well as the state’s election results.
He covered both the Democratic and Republican national conventions in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020, as well as the Iowa caucuses, New Hampshire primaries and Super Tuesday primaries. He was on the campaign trail with Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016 and covered former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party from 2021 to 2023.
He was at the Democratic National Convention in Denver in 2008, when former President Barack Obama accepted his party’s nomination. He was on Hillary Clinton’s campaign plane when former FBI Director James Comey announced his investigation into the candidate’s use of a private e-mail server. He was in Philadelphia in 2020, when Joe Biden was declared the winner of the U.S. presidential election and Rudy Giuliani called into question the state’s ballot-counting process during a press conference at Four Seasons Total Landscaping Co. And, he has covered numerous Trump rallies across the country.
Beyond campaign and elections coverage, Mark reports on the intersection of politics and the economy at the state and national levels, often with a focus on infrastructure, manufacturing and trade. From now through November, he expects to be spending much of his time focused on the country’s battleground states, especially Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.
A native of Kaukauna, Wis., located not far from Green Bay, Mark received his bachelor’s degree in history from Lawrence University in Appleton. He and his wife, Lisa, live in Columbus, Ohio.
