When Joe Scalzo was a student at Malone College in the late 1990s, a local librarian told him to stay away from print journalism, since there was no future in it.
Unfortunately (his word), he ignored that advice and has spent most of the last 25 years writing about sports, first for The Vindicator, then the Canton Repository and now for Crain’s Cleveland Business. Before arriving at Crain’s Cleveland, he spent about 18 months overseeing the websites of two trade publications, Tire Business and Rubber News, without learning anything about either industry. He still does not know what thermoplastic elastomers are.
He does, however, know sports and he has stories . . . lots of them. And he's returning to Youngstown to share some of his more entertaining ones with us.
Join us for breakfast with Joe at the Butler Institute for American Art's Collections Cafe. It's no accident that the cafe is located in the Butler's sports gallery wing. We will be treated to a guided tour of the Butler's sports gallery after Joe's talk. .
