We at the Youngstown Press Club pride ourselves on the work we do to support press freedom. On Feb. 22, we joined others around the world pushing for the freedom of Evan Gershkovich, the American reporter who has been unlawfully detained in Russia for nearly a year.
Paul Beckett, the Wall Street Journal editor who is working full-time to bring Evan home, spoke to a Youngstown Press Club audience at DeYor Performing Arts Center. In a conversation with Brenda Linert, Youngstown Press Club board of governors member, Paul told us about Evan, his work, his family, how he's holding up in prison, what's being done to return him home, and what we can do to help.
The event was sponsored by WKBN-TV, the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, Pecchia Communications, The Business Journal, DeYor Performing Arts Center and the Edward M. Barr Foundation.
