Gunita Singh is a staff attorney for the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press where she works on litigation, policy, and amicus work, primarily around state and federal freedom of information laws while also helping reporters and news organizations with records requests.
Gunita received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her undergraduate degree from Boston University where she studied political science and graduated magna cum laude. She has co-authored two publications about the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on access to public records. Gunita was previously an attorney at the DC-based government transparency organization Property of the People where she used the Freedom of Information Act to foster transparency and accountability of government institutions. She grew up in Palo Alto, California.

- 2022 press freedom analysis
In May 2023, the RCFP published a four-part newsletter series that analyzed data from the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker for 2022. The series highlighted press freedom violations, such as the murder of Jeff German, a reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and trends from the Tracker's data. - Supreme Court briefs
In 2023, the RCFP filed several friend-of-the-court briefs with the U.S. Supreme Court on topics such as online speech, the First Amendment's exception for true threats, and government efforts to control social media. - Letter to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
The RCFP wrote a letter urging the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to stop excluding freelance journalists from press briefings and media lists. - Freedom of Information Archives
RCFP attorneys have helped journalists obtain records through FOIA litigation, including 5,400 pages of Pentagon records about civilian casualties from U.S. airstrikes. - Freedom of the Press Awards
In May 2024, the RCFP announced the 2024 Freedom of the Press Award honorees, including Pulitzer Prize-winning founder of Futuro Media, Hinojosa, and Huang, who will receive the Freedom of the Press Catalyst Award. - Local Legal Initiative
The RCFP's Local Legal Initiative was active in Oregon in 2022, with partial funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. - Election Access Laws training
The RCFP offers a training that provides an overview of legal issues journalists may face when reporting on elections, including exit polling, access to ballots, and more.
