The fourth annual Hall of Fame and Awards Dinner honored five new inductees into the Hall of Fame and honored others who are excelling in the fields of journalism and communications.
Inducted into the Hall of Fame were Mona Alexander, recently retired news director at WFMJ; Bill Lewis, photographer for the Tribune Chronicle and The Vindicator; Nick Rich, news videographer for WKBN; Len Rome, news anchor at WYTV; and the late William Fleckenstein, co-founder and general manager of WHOT Radio.
The Excellence in Media Award honors those who are currently doing exemplary work in one of the mass communication fields. This year Excellence in Media Award went to Madison Tromler, news anchor and reporter at WFMJ.
The First Amendment Award honors those who have engaged in behavior in defense of the freedoms protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, who has taken a stand with the risk of personal or professional harm and staunchly defended the freedoms protected by the First Amendment. The press club awardedLisa Abraham, longtime area journalist, with its First Amendment Award
The Medal of Merit is an award for a member of the Youngstown Press Club who has contributed significantly to the success of the club. This year the Medal of Merit went to JoAnn Kolarik, WFMJ account executive and the former president of the Youngstown Press Club.
These awards were presented at the banquet, along with recognition of the Youngstown Press Club's college scholarship winners, Molly Burke, a junior at Youngstown State University, and Merrick Morneweck, a senior at Pennsylvania State University.
The club raised $2,830 in donations to the scholarship fund, for next year's scholarships.
