Attorney David Marburger, a nationally known press and constitutional law attorney, who was the founding general counsel for the Ohio Coalition for Open Government, addressed the Youngstown Press Club as part of the club's 2026 speaker series.
Attorney Marburger has been practicing in the area of First Amendment law for over 40 years.
A retired partner in the national law firm of Baker Hostetler, working principally from the Cleveland office, Marburger has defended the press in more than 110 libel suits and prosecuted a variety of suits on behalf of the press to vindicate press rights under the First Amendment and under state open records and open meetings laws.
He is the co-author of a book about freedom of information in Ohio, titled “Access with Attitude.”
He has been representing WFMJ in Youngstown for more than two decades and represented The Vindicator for more than two decades.
The Plain Dealer and The Pittsburgh Press are among the newspapers that he represented for years. He practices law now in “retirement” and still representing news organizations.
Before becoming a lawyer for journalists, Marburger was a journalist, working for KQV all-news radio in Pittsburgh during the 1970s and early 1980s.
